Hello!

I have a Ph.D. in Mass Communication, with an emphasis in Environmental Risk Communication, a Master's of Public Health in Community and Behavioral Health, and B.A. in Communication Studies, all from the University of Iowa. Currently, I direct the MA in Strategic Communication degree program at Iowa and also teach courses for the program. As a professor, I hope to inspire students to create communication that is highly effective and helps make a positive difference in the world.

When I am not teaching, I conduct research, consult, and develop communication workshops within the nexus of science communication, sustainability, and health. I particularly enjoy providing communication training to engineers and other scientists, to help ensure their work is shared and promoted correctly to the people who are potentially affected by it. I have also worked on several water, sanitation, and hygiene campaigns in India and Haiti and continue to conduct research related to media influences on sustainable farming practices.

In 2019, I started a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and have been working as executive director ever since. WaterWoman Sustainability Education, Inc. is an educational foundation which helps support my sustainability adventure series for kids, The Adventures of WaterWoman

Outside of my professional life, I try to get outside as much as possible. I love going hiking, paddle boarding, doing yoga, and generally enjoying nature with my family and our animals. Our most recent adventure has been getting into the world of backyard chickens.
